    Hanging with CPAP

I am dialing in my CPAP setup for car camping. I recently purchased a goal zero portable power station for an unrelated purpose, but found it powers my CPAP nicely. I think it would be ideal to hang my CPAP machine from the hammock ridgeline or in a Chameleon peak shelf, but then I've got over 6' of hose to manage. I've looked into a shorter hose, but would rather use an adapter that connected the 18" mask hose directly to the machine itself. I can't find anything like that on the CPAP supplier sites.

Placing the machine outside the hammock works ok, but I'd rather keep it in with me. Do any of you apnea sufferers have a good solution?

What is your cpap machine model? And the size of your mask hose? I can find you an adapter.

I've got the PR Dreamstation and Resmed Swift FX mask. Both have a male 19mm (I think that's the diameter) connector. Thanks for the offer!

Howdy! There are a few good threads on here addressing CPAP use in the hammock. Seems most have made a gear shelf that hangs inside the hammock from the ridgeline, or clips to the end. I'm an indoor hanger as well, and have my CPAP setup on a TV tray stand next to the hammock. Works great for home, but obviously not for camping.

I like the idea of the Goal Zero Powerstation. I've been looking at a few similar options with stuff on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...With+AC+Outlet

Get the Hex-70 XL. Attach to your ridgeline and adjust to your needs. Holds my Everest with battery.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have a new chameleon and am using one of the peak shelves to store my machine right now, but my normal 6' hose is a pain to deal with.

If I can find the right adapter, I'll attach the 18" mask hose directly to the machine.

I haven't looked at dental devices yet, but they sound intriguing for backpacking. How much does the pure sleep thing cost?

Oral appliances a approved as a first line treatment for sleep apnea. I think they would be perfect for a backpacker. You'd want to consult your doctor first to be sure it will work for you, as I believe they only work for obstructive sleep apnea, not central sleep apnea.

Every day is a good day.

I use a couple velcro straps to attach the hose to the ridgeline. Keeps the hose up and out of the way, especially important when I have had one or more dogs crashing in the hammock with me.

These velcro straps are available all over the place and are frequently used to bundle computer cables. Mine were all scavenged off of APC UPS units.

Only downside is, if not wrapped tightly enough, they will tend to slide back toward the cpap if there is a lot of activity in your hammock, dogs, visitors, moving about, using it as a lounger during the day etc.

My solution to this was a prussik with a rubberband, grabs the ridgeline fairly well, stretches and holds the one strap closer to the head end.

Yes, 6' of tubing can be cumbersome, especially if you rig the cpap at your head end. I rig it at the foot end most all of the time.

Side not, I rig all my stuff in a waterproof bag that is clipped to a gear loop at the peak and the to the ridgeline. Protects the cpap and battery from rain should it find it's way under the tarp and down the suspension. And it's how I stow the stuff in the backpack, just can't risk getting it wet.
