    Whoopie sling only?

I watched a lot of videos, read a ton of threads and even made a couple of pairs of whoopie slings but in most cases that I've seen or read, people tend to attach the fixed loop end of the whoopie slings to the hammock via continuous loops or some other method using the existing gathered end system. I just removed the rope that was in mine and fed the fixed loop end of the whoopie sling through the channel on the end of the hammock and the adjustable loop end of it back through the fixed loop. Am I going to cause any problems with that method?

that method will work just fine.

I like having separate continuous loops on my hammock though. That way, if the whoopies get wet, I don't have to pack them with my hammock.

No your jut fine and will not hurt the hammock in any way. Most of us still do hang our slings direct to the hammock and connect the adjustable end to the tree strap in some fashion. There are systems that go the other way but the need for a loop on the hammock depends on the way they are set up and you can go without just fine.

^this and if you need to hang on a really short tree span, you can't just disconnect your whoopies slings and go from tree strap to CL with a Becket Hitch, J Bend, etc.

Some individuals prefer to use whoopie hooks in conjunction with their whoopie slings.
It's one of the primary reasons that individuals use the contious loop method, whether the loop of amsteel is fed through the hammock channels or simply whipped around the ends in a gathered end set up.
The whoopie hooks allow the user to swap out different hammocks while maintaining the same suspension and the whoopie hooks also act as a water break, though I have heard that water still has the potential to skip over the hook and onto the contious loop down to the hammock.
I personally have never witnessed this.
But, as far as attaching the whoopie slings directly to the hammock, either by feeding the fixed eye of the whoopie through the hammock channel or whipping the ends, there isn't anything wrong with that method and is the way I go.

It rains harder in Florida than anywhere else I know. If the whoopie sling is connected directly to your hammock and the distal end reaches beyond your tarp coverage, you may experience a soppy hammock in a heavy rain. I switched away from having my whoopies connected directly to my hammock just to include a water break.

Looks like everyone has covered the main reasons folks switch to continuous loops. I found the flexibility with short distances between trees to be the main reason I moved to whoopie hooks. However, the rain break has been nice as well.

Lastly, having a detachable suspension is super helpful if you use a detached bug net. It was a pain trying to configure my fronkey style net when always running the entire whoopie through the ends just to lounge.

But in the end either system will work and both have advantages. It is hard to beat the simplicity of a direct whoopie on a MSH.

Dutch Whoopie hook user here too. I've been using them since the day they came out (four or five years ago) and really like the simplicity.

I usually just larks head some extra cordage to the whoopie slings as a water break. Shug suggested shoe laces in his video, I just use a chunk of paracord. I've not run into a situation where the trees were to close together but it is something I guess I need to consider. What about soft shackles as opposed to CL?

Either threading the fixed loop through the end channel on the hammock, or larks heading the fixed loop around the hammock end works fine.
The only thing list is a quick disconnect feature.
