OK diy peeps. How do you figure out how big/long the double ended stuff sack should be for a diy 11ft hammock? Any plans or pictures of the process would be great. Thanks.

I just guessed on my first one, got too excited to care about proper size or fit. Mine is about the size of a baseball x2 in length. It's fits my 10'6" hammock, amsteal whooppies, and and my MSH toggles. I prefer my straps separate so it works fantastic for me. I do wish it pack a bit looser sometimes.
Sorry probably not what ya wanted to hear.
Have you checked out Joe Brewers stuff sack video.

He has some helpful hints on stuff sacks.

I use one of two templates: 15x15 or 20x20 depending on the weight of the hammock fabric. Less than 1.4 oz/sqyd fits in a 15x15 without issues. Anything larger (basically 1.6 for me) goes in 20x20.

The RSBTR plans that they post online are a nice size, if a little bit bigger than necessary (but they would also work for many tarps). They start with an 18" x 18", which, like I say, you could cut down a bit. I think a little extra room is nice in case you add a bug net, over cover, bug net, etc. Also, if the bag is barely big enough it tends to take a very rigid shape when stuffed, whereas with a slightly larger stuff sack it conforms a little better in the pack.
I don't get any kickback, but RSBTR"s OutdoorINK stuff sack kit is really cool and reasonably priced yielding six sacks (and you will eventually find a use for them all ).

Isn't it a bit pointless to really worry about the "perfect" size/weight on something like this.
You aren't compressing like with a quilt. Whatever the bulk, it is going to squeeze to minimum once in your pack.
I'd rather have the bit of extra capacity if needed.

Stuff your hammock in a bread bag. Take measurements.
I agree with all of the above; anything in that range will be awesome for a basic hammock, erring on the larger side for a hammock with a net or other accessories. If you go much smaller than a 15" wide blank it's harder to get your hand inside it.

Here's a link with good directions. I used 18x18 inches for the ones I have made for tablecloth hammocks.

I do an 18x18" and find it's about the perfect size. It comfortably fits the hammock, bug net, and tree straps without me having to force them in.... it's also just big enough for me to get my big hands into without trouble.
