Tree strap - just a loop in the webbing?

Thinking about the following setup for my tree straps. Weird stress on the webbing? Bad idea?

That should work just fine but you will want to move the loop over to the left as seen in the picture to reduce the pull on the loop. Along the same lines as this video:

I'm not seeing anything odd there, but if you move the loop a little to the left, the strap will come off the tree in a straight line, reducing the stress on the loop a bit.

That's how I hang. Works fine. I suppose you could rotate the loop around to the backside of the tree to reduce the stress on the sewn loop, but as long as the loop is adequately sewn, it shouldn't really matter.

There was a discussion about this recently in another thread...vs. using carabiners. No problem at all, and lighter, but just a little less convenient. I'm going to try it on a trip sometime and see exactly how much I miss the carabiners.

I wondered if convenience was the reason. I originally intended to use biners with this setup, but I think I'll try it without a couple times and see which I like better.

I've been using cam straps, so the weight savings will be significant either way.

Even my 22g nano biners add up to 1.5oz total. That's still decent when you're looking for weight to cut.

It's perfectly fine if you move the strap to the left as others have stated. My only concern would be that it seems like it would be a lot easier for me to forget my straps on the tree with no hardware to catch my eye. Especially considering that I'm often breaking camp in the dark.
