Just to let everyone know. Much like at James River SP, there is water at the park but none at the site where we shall be camping. We shall have to haul it a ways. I will have my "blue cubes" again.
Swinging at The Bridge folks! Woo hoo!

Just a bump to keep this thread current. No new news really, just biding our time until this awesome hang!!

How far is "a ways"? Do you have to hike into the site, or is there parking nearby? What else can you share about the area available for hanging? You mentioned Golf Course Road, is there a map available? What swimming is available, if any?
Lastly, does ODH have a website anywhere?
All good questions. No, we don't have a website but we are on Facebook. The "a ways" refers to distance for water. It's driving distance, fyi.
Please realize that I have never camped there. It is not a regular "campsite." This is a special use situation, in exchange for us helping out with setting up this new state park.
No, there is no swimming but there is some great hiking and awesome natural history. Not to mention the shear beauty of the place.

Perfect, thank you, I found it. In case any one else wants the link - https://www.facebook.com/Old-Dominio...1795001740904/.
That's what I was wondering - whether hauling water meant actually hauling, or rather driving it from point A to point B.
Yes, I am aware this is a special use situation. I just thought that since you posted it you might know what sort of area the hang would be located in, especially since there is a difference in packing if you have a car available. Thank you for your work on this.
I can get some more info to share tomorrow. I have been there once. If we need to take the usual way people get to the Bridge and beyond, there is a set of stairs (lots of stairs), but then it's flat with wide walkways. We would easily be able to use wagons of borrow a golf cart to wherever they are letting us camp.
I don't know where golf course rd is. May be on the other side of the park.
I will come back tomorrow with whatever I can find out.

I was told that we can drive to the camp area. Water is not available there but we can get it elsewhere in the park and I have been assured of there being trees. The head ranger had worked with us before.
I'm sure we have a couple of daring souls who would be more than happy to, you know, hang from the bridge itself! Not that I am going to name names or anything...cough cough sean!

Very very tentatively putting this on the calendar, assuming I can beg borrow or steal time away from work (a very big assumption on my part)...
As I understand it, and I could be wrong, where we will be is NOT in the gorge itself. Rather, we will be camping nearby. We will be helping out throughout the park. The area where we are camping is, again, as I understand it, where we can drive up to. FWIW
In looking up the GoogleMaps image, "GolfCourse Road" is south of Route 11 and south of the gorge. It has a nice looking area for us. I had not realized that state parks had gotten that much land but I am glad they did. I have been by that site many times and, if memory serves, it will be excellent for us to camp. We will have to get water from up at the visitor center I imagine. I shall be bringing several five gallon containers from home with me.
