I used to be a Sunsetter dealer in Montana. Great awnings, but bring your wallet.

Ha! Tell me about it. The south side is not by choice, it's all I got. I am down to 3 choices. 1. Making shade when needed to make this spot work. 2. Buy a stand or install posts. Not many good locations for posts. 3. Give up hanging at the house from April until October.

I have the same problem with the Sunsetter as I do with the shade sale. House design where I can hang won't accept the awning.

I always wanted some more shade, so I did what I said I was going to do in my last post, except I sewed the two together instead of taped for a 10' x 7' tarp. It did not have grommets in the middle, so I hung it on a diagonal. As a tarp, the grommets seem a bit weak and will probably pull out eventually: I did not try to hang it taut. Also a bit of light does come through and it is not blackout dark, but probably reflects most of the light.
I could always throw it over my continuous ridgeline as a rectangle, and also over my WB Super Fly (which hangs underneath the ridgeline) and tie down the four corners. This may provide enough support to stop any flapping in the wind. Overall, I am glad I built it. WP_20170319_012.jpgWP_20170319_011.jpgWP_20170319_010.jpg

Our deck is the same way. I have given up trying to provide shade and moved my hammock to a shaded spot!

Wish I could move to another spot without leaving my property. Still noodling on the idea of using shade cloth or E blanket, or silver tarp.

If you're looking for something purpose-built for hammocks, take with you can look at: https://www.treklightgear.com/v9-hammock-tarp.html It has a reflective side.

That way, you can take it with you, too.

I was browsing the Wilderness Logic website and I saw these deck anchors. Maybe you can use them to pitch your regular tarp on the deck for shade?

Yeah I planted some pretty big trees. They're growing fast, but it's still relatively slow. Painfully slow. The problem is you can't stick them right next to the deck to get sun now, because it will look stupid years later or possibly cause damage. To get the height and block the angle of the sun, you'll be waiting 20 years even if you stick them right up to the edge.
