SoCal (Los Angeles area) overnight options for early April?

I'm going to be going back to Los Angeles, my place of birth, for my sisters wedding in mid-April. I'll be there for almost two weeks and thought I might be able to take a couple days to do an overnighter there as I've not had a chance to do so in that area since I got into this hobby.

I'll have access to transportation, but I'd rather not spend too much of my time while down there traveling for this trip (exceptions can be made of course).

Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice one, maybe even two, night trip that I could go on in that area?

What part of LA will you be staying at?

Westchester/Kentwood, just next to LAX, or possibly the Valley, I forget exactly where my sister lives now.

Hi! The Backbone trail in the Santa Monica Mountains gets really pretty on the Ventura end. There is a campground up there before it comes down Chumash trail. But that is still "City Hiking"
