    Crooked stitches

Hey guys I bought another sewing machine at an Estate sale today. It's an old Keymore 158 I tried it out and everything runs great except I get perfect stitches on bottom and slight sawtooth on top. I was using Mara 70 with a 80-12 needle. What should I try to correct this?

Nice! That may be the normal stitch pattern for your machine. Can you post a pic?

A picture will help. Gutermann recommends a 14 or 16 needle with Mara 70, so it could be the hole is too small pushing the thread to the side. I tend to get a little bit of that with ripstop, anyway.

Ok here is a pic of the stitches. It's a double layer of Hexon 1.6 I folded it over after sewing and you can see the top of the fabric is the bottom stitch and really straight but the top stitches are a little crooked. I changed to a 14 needle and it seems to be a little better. It's not bad at all but I was just wondering why the bottom is straight and the top is not. IMG_4150.jpg

Looking at the bottom, I'd try increasing your top tension a hair. It's really hard to get balanced with two layers of such a thin fabric, but it looks like the top thread is consistently pulled through to the bottom. It almost looks like the bottom thread is riding on the surface of the fabric which makes it look straight, but I think it would pull out. You might try on a rolled hem with three layers to see if that helps.

This looks really nice. I agree with Caminante to increase your needle tension a notch. I believe this sawtooth pattern how your new machine stitches. I think it looks cool.
