Quick solo overnighter on the knobstone trail

With warm weather (for february), I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to head to the woods. With the knobstone trail only 30 minutes away, i packed my pack with a 10x12 tarp because afternoon/evening rain forecasted and hit the road.

Arriving at the trailhead I shouldered my pack and scurried along the winding trail. After 3 miles i dropped down into a valley with a nice little creek. It was the first water source I'd come to and after scouting around i found a nice area with some suitable trees and no widowmakers. I began setting up leisurely and taking my time. It was quiet and peaceful and everything was working out well. The hammock was hung nicely and the underquilt was adjusted better than it ever had been. I added my recently finished diy underquilt protector and it fit well.

I set the tarp up and put in some extra stakes incase i had to batten diwn the hatches. I scouted around the area for awhile and filtered some water and snacked before the light rain began to fall. I was in a porch mode as the wind had laid down to nothing as it drizzled.

After some dinner it began to get dark and i snuggled iinto the downey goodness as the pitterpatter on the tarp took me away. After a long restful nights sleep I awoke before dawn and enjoyed morning coffee and browniesfrom the hammock.

The day came gray and gloomy but my spirit had been rejuvinated. Packing up was bittersweet but i was soon back on the trail retracing my steps back to the jeep. After changing clothes i promised myself to try harder to take advantage of the small windows of opportunity whenever possible

Thanks for your report. I am in the process of planning a trip to the KT, probably in May. For me, any solo trip is a way to hit the reset button, to let things from routine day to day stay behind for a while. Sounds like you have had a similar experience.
