Thanks for all the welcomes. I went out and actually hung in the woods for a few hours this past weekend just to practice setting up. I think I did fairly well. Getting excited about actually camping in the hammock this weekend.
Graniteville, eh? I haven't liked that place since my ol high school, Wren, up in Anderson County, made the footballs playoffs. Went down to Graniteville for the first or second game of the playoffs and got our backsides handed to us. OUCH! I was in the stands, not on the field.
Oh well, that was in the '60s, so let's let bygones be bygones, I reckon! LOL Welcome to HF. Lots of good folks and good information here. Sounds as if you're doing everything right.
I will add this: Do NOT fail to take into account the effect of high elevations on temps. In fact, double-check that the roads in the GSMNP are open that early in the year. The highway through/over Newfound Gap can be closed due to snow. Same for road out to Clingmans Dome. Depending on where you plan to go, of course. A word from the wise voice of experience.
