Wildcat Hollow vs Archers Fork - Wayne National Forest

Anyone have a preference towards one vs. the other? I plan on going solo, in a hammock for the first time outside of my basement and garage, and a bit out of shape after sitting on my butt for a few months if that matters.

Havent done Archets. Hear it gets sloppy.

Wildcat was my first HF hang. Great spots to hangs and easy terrain. Mostly flat but scenic with a couple creek jumpings. Couple pine grooves. Really nice.

I ended up going to Wildcat... per the backpack ohio map I took it clockwise. It started out a bit muddy but overall the whole trail was in great shape. While no huge ups or downs there are few that, for me, winded me a bit. There are a ton of camping spots on the short trail but not a whole bunch on the large one. Right, I think, after the 6 mile mark the water was very very scarce. I ended up going to the 10.5 campsite and stayed the night there because it was close to the stream. Unfortunately I didn't realize how low I was on water before mile 6 and ended up having none until the 10 mile so I ended up being pretty dehydrated. The site was very nice under some pines with a fire pit and pretty secluded (though right off the trail like most of the sites) with a few trees to hang from. I woke a couple times to dogs barking otherwise it was very quiet and I didn't see one other person on the trail. Today, Sat, as I was walking out I only ran into one person on the big trail but a ton of people on the day trail and camping along it. Overall the trail is very good, though if I did it again I would make sure to stop everytime I see water to fill back up and do it counterclockwise, there are many more clearings for camping after the halfway going that way than the other. You cross a ton of road so there is plenty of opportunities to stash water along the way too.

It is an easy trail but it's good to cache water along trail at some of the road crossings. It's been years since I was there last so I do not remember the spots I would cache water. Just look at map and you can easily figure it out. This is especially important during dryer months. Glad you had fun!!

Ya it was fun. I haven't been out in years on a solo and was a bit nervous about it but it turned out OK, except for being bored after I ate dinner and realized it was only 5pm.

Glad you had a good time. I usually have a book or two on my phone for the down time in camp. Was out last night and woke up around 3 with the phone on my chest. Must of been a thriller. Take care,
