I Imagine they used wool blankets
Life on a ship during the Age of Sail was rough. The crewmen were cold when it was cold out, and stewed when it was hot. What we call CBS is what they called bedtime. In addition to a blanket, they'd wear more clothes, or perhaps put down some additional padding between their bodies and the canvas. In the Royal Navy, they also generally slept tightly packed, so they were sharing body heat, even in the tropical latitudes.
Officers on RN ships had cots, which were also suspended, but were more like a hanging bed, with a mattress, pillow, and proper sheets.
In the navies of the 20th century, I imagine they heated the berths.
Thanks for the info
You bet! Glad the nuggets of info rolling around my brain could be shared.
