NJ Pine Barrens Hawkins Bridge 2/18-2/19

We've locked up a group site at Hawkins Bridge.
Sat/Sun this weekend 2/18-2/19

That means only 50 of you can show up.

Right now I'll be there, NJSurfer, JmBoh, Moose, Root are in and TheTreeFrog is a maybe.

All are welcome.

Wood gasifiers will be on display.

Temps are predicted to be mild, day in the 60's, night in the 40's.

I'm throwing some firewood in the truck and given that it's supposed to be such great weather and the campsite is on a bluff overlooking the river, I'm actually gonna try to get there earlier in the day.

Straight down Carranza Rd, on past the memorial, keep going. Or come in via the Chatsworth route, your call.

Food is up in the air so plan on bringing your own.

I know I wouldn't take my Chevy Cobalt down Carranza Road to get to Hawkins Bridge, not unless they did some serious road repairs in the last couple of years.

Park Office (Chris) told me to try the back way because the have reworked High Crossing and you know what a nightmare that used to be.

Here's a video I took of Campsite A a while back. You'll be camping in the Pine Barrens at a campsite with absolutely no pine trees, all oaks.

Yeah I'm familiar and it's not a problem to my mind so long as there are hammocking trees. We also have some flexibility to change sites if needed. Normally when I camp there I'm by myself in another site with some pines. What I do like about A is that the site is back from the road (isolated dirt road that it is) and backs up to the forest with the bluff overlooking the river.

But we'll have a campfire, some grub, yotes howling and a nice clear skied starry night.
