See some "milking the bury" on this video at 5:56
Means running your fingers over the bury to make sure it is tight and prevents slipping.

Thanks Shug! I never milked mine. They seem to hold fine and I'm 270#+. I plan on ordering the goods to make my own in the near fusion I'll be sure to do this.

Indeed that seemed to help. I am however a bit puzzled by the slitage after so little use

The coating on amsteel wears off very fast. it's very important to milk or properly set the bury or else the sling will slip, when this occurs under load it does put a lot of abrasion on the amsteel and will cause fiber damage.
By all means, let's argue about whether or not a hammock will hurt a tree. All the while ignoring the fact that there is an island of garbage the size of Texas floating in the Pacific ocean. Or how about the fact that over 75% of the world's nuclear reactors are leaking...

If there's significant amounts of broken fibers I'd say there might be something wrong. However, that could also be operator error. Watch Shug's video closely. To loosen, you have to take all the load off the sling. You never actually pull the center through the outer sheath. Whether tightening or loosening, you're actually pushing the outside "sheath" in one direction or the other along along the inner cord. Pushing the outer sheath loosens the fibers like the old "Chinese Handcuffs" and allows it to slide easily.

I saw a thread a few months back where the user had similar whoopie complaints. Turns out they were grabbing the free end of the sling and pulling really hard "in the opposite direction" in order to tighten the sling. They also complained about having a really hard time loosening the sling (for a similar reason). All that tugging eventually broke quite a few fibers on each end of the bury.
