    From Hammock to ground

How are you guys transitioning to the ground while Hammock camping?

I have been consistently hanging in a tree for about 4 years now when I camp with my son. As a family we have a huge tent ( that I don't want to take on my next scouting trip). I was trying to figure out a better way to lay without lugging a huge tent.
Looking at some smaller backpacking tents but don't want to believe that's my only option.

    Give me some options!
    P.S. I hate the ground.

Not sure what you are asking. When I camp in a hammock, that's it, my hammock is where I sleep. I don't take any tent whatsoever, just my hammock, insulation and tarp.

    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

Why not get a few hammocks for the family? Like the Dutch netless or other affordable hammocks.

i don't ever transition to the ground while hammock camping.

if you're talking about what I do when I car camp with my family of 6, I sleep on an air mattress in a tent all cozied up to the wife and such...

Out West there are lots of places that don't have trees. Selling the tent would be limiting the places I can go. Nothing wrong with several camping outfits hammock wise as well as tents.

I car camp with my kids. They stay in the big tent while I hang somewhere nearby. I just recently got UQs for both but only one is really warming up to hammock camping. There's no shortage of trees in the group sites we frequent. With that said there are some camping spots that are simply a wide open grassy field (hate those) or that have hard rules about hanging nothing from the trees. For those occasions I'll bring my stand but it's big and kind of bulky. However, I did modify it to hold up a 12x12 tarp so it then doubles as a dining fly.

I've had to "go to ground" once I can in the last 3 years or so. At the moment I can't remember why. I believe it was a surprise prohibition on hanging once we arrived.

The first rule of Hammock Club is: You do not go to ground.

The second rule of Hammock Club is: YOU DO NOT GO TO GROUND!

The third rule of Hammock Club is: Someone yells stop, goes limp, taps out, it's nap time.

The forth rule: Only one hammock to a set of trees.

Fifth rule: One hammock at a time fellas.

Sixth rule: No sharp objects or shoes in the hammock

Seventh rule: Naps will go on as long as they have to.

Eighth and final rule: If this is your first night at Hammock Club....You have to nap.

More sreiously though nearly 8 years of Hammocking all over the west and I have not been back to ground once. Camped in the desert, mountains, canyons and on ridges, hung from poles, buildings and 2x4s but never touched the ground. Family of 5 of us all in hammocks snoring through the night.
