Mirror Lake area is a great place to start off at. There is a small trailhead at the lake for further excursion into the back country. There may/probably will be snow in areas, kinda chilly at night, historically upper 40s/lower 50s at night.

No problem with low temps - comfortable down to teens with current rig. Actually prefer a bit of cool weather.

The peaks above Ogden look interesting but I am thinking with the elevation will be tough. Mirror Lake area looks interesting.

May end up finding front country camping for the 1st and then set out a bit.
    You can try this area.

Only about 40 minutes from Ogden and an easy trail this time of year. The elevation shouldn't be an issue for this area.

Also you can look at some close to Ogden and hike to Malan's Basin.

Only about 4 miles and again lower than the higher Mt Ogden peak.

If you are spending 1-3 days in the mountains you can start at the Indian Trail and follow it to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. This will allow you to decide how long or much you want to be on the trail. The BST follows the mountains at the edge of Ogden and will allow for some relatively easy hikes off of it. Take the Indian Trail to BST then to Hidden Valley drop down into Taylor's Canyon then up to Malan's Peak/Basin. From the basin it is possible to head down Waterfall Canyon but this trail is less traveled until you get to the falls.

If you do go to the Uinta's the first week of June expect snow on the ground, expect wet weather, expect large temperature swings of 80's or higher to 30's or lower, and expect higher elevations.

    Good Luck!

When in the town of Ogden remember to eat/drink, and even get coffee at "Roosters" on 25th Street.

I was there for dinner last Thursday and the food is exceptional. I want to go to there every day now especially as I'm back home in Pennsylvania at present.

Snow on the highlands for sure right now.

Wow. Interesting set up. People referencing the such-and-such street trail-head. Looks like you have Ogden the City, a river and than bang! Wilderness mountain trails right there!

Ahhhh Rooster's!!! Many fine brews have been had there with some of my more rowdy motorcycle pals. The Niner Burger and Green Chile Burger are two of my favorites.

Opting for Mirror Lake as a start. May reserve a front country camping site for first evening - get into SLC at 4:30pm so probably getting into that area at dark or a bit after. So having a designated spot sounds reasonable.

Or would have to look into camping restrictions - some trail heads here in NY have designated spots 5-10 minutes in; other size you can set up 150 feet off trail, road or water. Still, arriving after dark putting on a pack and setting off in the dark may not be the best idea. May call the ranger station asking for advice on local regs.

Will have gear good to 10F or so.
Would prefer to bring bear bag rather than canister but can do either.
Don't feel the need for bear spray in black bear country unless I hear different.
Will have alky stove and can pick up HEET at any quickie mart.

Any good loops 5-25 miles or so starting from Mirror Lake. I understand I could probably out & back on the High Uinta trail a bit ?
Also still watching to see where Arrowhead Equipment's Meat & Greet ends up.

Theres a pretty good book called Utahs Incredible Backcountry Trails that has quite a few hikes along the Mirror Lake Highway that range from 5-20 miles round trip. DM me and i get get you some of the information from the book.

(Might be tomorrow before i can get to it since today is the wifes birthday.)

I will look into ordering that book...

Looks like Mirror Lake area is out - 60" base of snow today and 24" on the way says the local range station. They are thinking they would still be closed Jun 1st (arrival). I snow shoe and snow camp but it looks like road closures will prevent me from getting near the trail-heads in that area. Will browse the book for trail-heads lower than 10k and look over the info provided on the mountain trails right next to Odgen
