    Trip Suggestions

    Hey All,

My friends and I are looking for a backpacking trip this summer and don't have any ideas where to go. Last year we did the Rae Lakes loop in kings canyon. It was 45 miles and gained about 7k elevation. That's about what we would be looking for again.

I am overwhelmed with options, so does anyone have any suggestions of about a week long trip? If you could go anywhere in the country where would you go???

I'd go to the Grand Canyon. Rim-to-rim, something like that.

Grand Canyon Rim to Rim followed by Long's Peak. Closer to home would be Pictured Rocks area in the UP.

When we were there 12 yrs ago the ranger insisted that there be no lines to trees/shrubery, etc. It is a sensitive environment. I recommend contacting them. We "went to ground". They did not even allow a tarp for shade if tied to plants. Period.

I know what I'd do... North Inlet trail in RMNP out of Grand Lake over the continental divide down Flattop trail and back up the Lock trail to Andrews Glacier, up and over the glacier and back to the intersection of Flattop and North Inlet and back to Grand Lake. Then you have a nice drive back to Denver airport either over Trail Ridge or the route to the interstate is nice as well. Stop by Oskar Blues in Lyons. I did on the way in and unfortunately that was my one day of major altitude headache. I'd spend a night in Denver, then hit the trail and then hit Lyons on the way out. For me, I always have one day of altitude headache and I'm good after that.

p.s. the mileage is a little short of what you mention, but the altitude gain is about there. Peak altitude would be 13K. Couple of camps at 10K.
