There's been talk about having a hang in February. WIBackpacker suggested we have a winter hang at Devil's Lake State Park because it's pretty awesome to walk along the frozen lake.

I called the park and the group sites are open. Water and pit toilets are available. Half of the group sites look to be hammock friendly.

Before we jumped in and started to select dates, we wanted to see if there is any interest. If there is interest, then we will narrow down which weekend.

Walking the lake perimeter is great, we did it on Valentine's Day last year. No special footwear needed, though snowshoes w/crampons aren't a bad idea depending on weather. Both East/West bluffs trails are traversible even in significant snow, Tumbled Rocks covered in ice is pretty dicey, the IAT section is nice.

Hammocking AND ice fishing? Yes, I would definitely make every effort to go.

Its been my experience that there are not. Ton of trees in the winter camp site area but I have not stayed in the group site. There are normally not alot of people in winter so they probably will be alot looser on where people can setup. Walking the bluffs at winter would be great.

Looks like there is some interest in this hang. It's about $90 for the two sites and with 6 people, that's $15 each to cover the reservation fee.

Since we don't need to worry about a reservation, there's no pressure on narrowing down a date. However, people may need to put in notice at work for that Friday day off, so let's settle on something by the end of the year. That would give at least a good month before the hang.

There are 4 weekends in Feb. and here's a breakdown of any holidays/events occurring.

3-5: Sunday is SuperBowl Sunday
10-12: Grammy Awards on Sunday & I'm guessing people might be celebrating Valentine's Day early this weekend
17-19: President's Day is Monday the 20th - some people get Monday off
24-26: Academy Awards is on Sunday night

Are there any weekends which are OUT for you? Which weekend would you prefer?
