Way to boost temp rating please

Headed out. Quilts rated to 20. Temps will drop into the teens. I sleep a bit cold. The only other thing I have is one of those Thermarest Z rest accordion pads. Any ideas? Anyone use a Z rest in their hammock in conjunction with their UQ? Was it a nightmare? Any other ideas are welcome. I do have an extra top quilt rated to about 30 or 40 I think that I could pack. Thanks!

Get a winter sock from Dutch. Will boost the inside temp by 10-12 easy

I keep a 10* buffer between my quilts' ratings and expected lows. Sounds like you'll violate that rule by 10 or 15 degrees. Since you're not hiking far, maybe take a wool or fleece blanket and drape it over the ridgeline. You could also do a makeshift UQ supplement by draping a blanket under your hammock, tying cord to the corners, and running it over the ridgeline. It's not something I'd do without a little backyard practice.

I once took my 20* HG quilts to 13* F. Needless to say, it was an exceedingly miserable night.

Ty SS. I suppose I could squeeze a wool blanket and cord into the pack. Maybe I can test it out in the backyard overnight.

Oh, and the Shug thing - zip a down jacket up on the foot end because you'll probably feel it most in the feet.

You can layer quilts. You could try and rig your extra TQ over you UQ. If you have shockcord at the foot and head on the extra quilt you could tie off the the tails of the cord to the UQ suspension using tautlines, or similar, to snug it over the UQ. I'd play with it at home first.

You're going to feel cold on your backside, and on your feet first, so if most important to insulate there first. You can always bring an extra fleece or blanket to supplement the topquilt.ó

Go buy a bunch of hot hands hand warmers...a couple under your quilt will make a big, and I mean huge, difference at 3AM.

My recommendation because of it being so late in prep is to bring the extra topquilt and layer it underneath. Just remember to loosen up the suspension on it so it doesn't compress the other underquilt. Or if you have a sleeping bag that has a foot box opening or if you don't mind making a small hole you could use that as a pea pod system covering both you existing underquilt and top quilt. If you don't have either of them then bring the pad. Then I would use a FULL Nalgene bottle of boiling hot water.

Probably a very good idea. You might even want to tape them in the places you need them so they don't move around.
