UST (Ultimate Survival Technologies) Hex Tarp as a hammock tarp?

So I've got the doublenest from ENO And was looking into buying or making a tarp. But I remembered I already have a UST (Ultimate Survival Technologies) Hex Tarp for ground camping that I've never really used much. Has anyone used this tarp for hammock camping? If so any tips on rigging it up?

If I recall those tarps are pretty short/small. Might make a good fair weather tarp, assuming it covers your hammock, but if you run into any foul weather you'll probably want a little more.

Sounds too short to stay dry. I'd save my $27.99 and get a real tarp.

If you already have it. Go ahead and use it, it does have to be set up off center to cover your hammock. My buddy has the Double nest and that exact tarp, just offset to match your diagonal direction and you should be good to get out. Good luck, have fun.

Kinda what I was thinking. I'm gonna set it up tomorrow and see how she goes.

First of all welcome to the forum. If you've already got it, give it a try and figure out if it works for you. If not, move onto something else that fits your needs better. There's lots of options out there and if you have diy sewing skills, check out the tarp kits from ripstopbytheroll or dutch. Everyone has there own opinions around here so HYOH.

I am an advocate for the buy once, cry once philosphy. However, if you used a ridgeline on your eno at 93 inches (about 83 percent) , you would at least get about 8 inches of coverage on either end of your hammock with a 108 inch tarp ridge.

My friend has that tarp. It's just not big enough to cover a hammock end to end. He uses an ENO doublenest as well.

I have a UST tube tarp I use as a backup or loaner. It's much bigger and has much better coverage. It's a rectangle shape so I set it up as a asymmetrical diamond shape when using it.

Every day is a good day.

Well after setting it up and tinkering with it for an afternoon, I decided it definitely wasn't going to provide much coverage. I did get a great nap out of the way though. Lol. I'll stick with using the big blue poly tarp from Walmart until I get around to buying or making a lighter one for backpacking.
