I'm looking for a ride from near DFW and could meet you within a couple hours of the DFW area. I'm willing to kick in on fuel or whatever else is needed.

My other thought is to catch a bus into McAlester, OK (which is cheap and would be a fun adventure as I've never ridden a bus). Would anyone be willing to give me a ride from there?

    Thanks!
If no one is coming up from DFW, I think we can make arrangements to pick you up in McAlester. Will have to check and arrange the time table for the most efficient time.

Is anyone else interested in making a weekend trip of it? I might be able to make it work, but I would have to bug out on the 6th at Horsetheif. I know there is parking at the springs, but would they allow you to park for a couple of nights?

I will check and see if multiple day parking is allowed. If so we can drop your vehicle off there.

I should be available to help shuffle gear around. I'm not able to hike due to a disability but plan on arriving on motorcycle. I pull a trailer behind my motorcycle that will hold a good amount of equipment. My plan is to attend the Talimena State Park portion and Queen WilHelmina lodge portion. My email address is [email protected]

Finally got time to call the forest service and they advised that there is not any problem at all parking a vehicle at horsethief

Thanks for calling! Good to hear they don't mind you parking there overnight.

FYI, when I was there last April the rock basin for the spring was full of stagnate water, but there was a smaller basin slightly down hill with flowing water. We drank it no problem, but I did run it through my Sawyer first. It was refreshingly cool in the 80 degree weather despite the metallic taste.

I have been waiting on the Forum for something like this to happen since I signed up. And when it finally happens, it happens the one week I can't attend. I love the OT, the first leg it's one of my favorites! Oh well, maybe next year the stars will align for me. Ya'll have fun!

P.S. I'm sure its been stated, but, don't count on finding water out there in November!

I would like to see this be a yearly hike so hopefully you can make it next year. And the water issue is already well known so we are going to make stashes along the way.
