    Well it finally happened....

I hit the deck. Today we went to our little fishing spot, so our son could fish. I normally hang a couple hammocks for the wife and I, and I had fallen asleep in my new SLD trail lair. When all of a sudden I hit the deck. All I could think of was please don't let it be something wrong with the hammock. After a minute I got up, and it turns out my whoopie some how came of the knot. The toggle was still in place and not damaged. I rehung the hammock and all was well. But not how I wanted to wake up. Almost considering a differant type of suspension, don't want that to happen again.

Ouch that sounds painful. I have seen picts of a sliding knot put on the whoopie that is used to slide up and keep or trap the loop on the knot.

Never thought of that. Thanks for the idea. If anyone knows what knot can you please post it. Thanks again

Check this thread out. Some good pointers there.

I've had it happen too. Don't feel bad! Just follow rule #1- never hang higher than you're willing to fall!

My worst was on a concrete porch. There was not much light, I was in a big hurry and did not inspect the marlin hitch. I hung for about 10 seconds then it felt like my butt bone got shoved into my ribs. I learned a great lesson. Rule number 1 will always be rule # 1.

When I was using atlas straps I never worried about it, now that I have cinch buckles I kind of wonder of they would ever slip. I don't ever tie a little safety knot above the cinch buckle. Never had a problem, and hope I dont.

Every day is a good day.

I dumped the marlin spike hitch fast and went to Dutch Whoopie Hooks. I haven't landed on the ground since.

Same here, get rid of the MPH, whoopie hooks rock. Either larks head your loop to your hugger or get some BIAS Strap anchors and attached the loop to them, that also gives you options when faced with min hang problems.

Maybe you can set up as usual--
marlin spike hitch and whoopie sling. Remove whoopie sling from marlin spike hitch and toggle. Form a larks head on end of whoopie sling--insert strap into larks head, slide larks head up past marlin spike hitch and toggle--tighten larks head on strap above toggle and slide down to rest on marlin spike hitch and toggle. Dare to it to fall off!
