    Mammoth Caves Canoeing

Has anyone been canoeing in Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky? I watched Adventure Archives' video on their canoeing trip and it looked like a lot of fun. They used tents on the islands along the river. We only have hammocks and was wondering if hammock camping was an option along the river?

I haven't canoed there but it was the first stop me and a friend did when roadtripping for Thanksgiving break during our exchange semester at UoI a couple of years ago. We went on a cave tour and also just walked the woods in general. Great place!

    Good luck with your adventure.

Grew up 10 miles from Mammoth Cave and yes there are plenty of trees to hang from. This area is solid trees for the most part. Green river is a perfect river for canoeing as long as the area isn't in a drought and it's not at the moment. Check it out on Google Earth and you'll see the area first hand.

yeah, me and some buddies did this about 8 or 9 years ago and had a blast. the Green River is very flat through there... hard to notice a current at all. so there is plenty of paddling involved. I forget what the put ins/outs are called but we did a one-night trip, about 10 miles a day, taking out where the ferry crosses the river. there weren't a lot of obvious camping spots, but we did find a great spot just big enough for three tents. just for kicks we got back in our boats after dark to see some stars... once we had our headlamps off for awhile we could see foxfire glowing along the banks of the river --very cool.
