Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have been lurking for some time. I recently purchased a WBBB XLC and am looking into "emergency" freestanding options for the occasional times where I find myself on a scout outing in the middle of a meadow, or on the beach, etc. I like the Handy Hammock stand for weight/portability and I have read Derek's review of the stand (with modifications). His modifications seem to suggest that the stand can be made to work with a WBBB XLC, but I couldn't find any confirmation. I worked out the math using Derek's calculator, and this is what I have...
strut length = 54.5"
strut angle = 65 degrees
strut height = 49.3" [54.5 * sin(65)]
strut "lean" distance = 23" [54.5 * cos(65)]
If I tweak the calculator, I can get a 49.1" hang point using the following values:
Distance between trees = 10.7'
Ridgeline length = 111"
Preferred sit height = 12" (lower than I'd like, but it's better than sleeping on the ground!)
Weight in hammock = 225lbs
Hang Angle = 30 degrees
To get my struts 10.7' (128.4") apart, I need to adjust the center line to 82".
So... can someone confirm that they have used an XLC with the Handy Hammock Stand and that it "works"? If not, does my math check out?
Thanks,
