Tarp doors: to Velcro or not to Velcro this is the question.

As I toil the day away, instead of doing my chores, I wonder longer than I should, about tarp doors.
Velcro enclosed or the simple over lap?
I always overlap during storms, but this is because I never had or thought of Velcro/omni doors.
I wonder if I should have MArty install them on my OMW which Is being developed for deployment.

If you don't mind adding weight. I imagine it won't hold too well by its own - you'll probably still need to stake it just as you would a tarp without velcro.

Finally, you'll notice nobody sells tarps with velcro.

I find velcro doors hard to line up and close properly. When stumbling out of the tarp in the middle of the night or in the morning I like something easier.

On one of my tarps I have velcro on one side and a zipper on the other. The zipper side is the one that I use to get in and out of.

I have a tarp being constructed at Outdoor wilderness logics, and I am wondering if I should have Marty install the Velcro 1/4" strips to the side. It is an option you can add at checkout. Just don't know if I should fork over the money. At this time I am not handy enough for most DIY sewing.

Now that you said that, I wish I would have had one door come equipped w/ a disconnect at ONE door corner, and Dutch's Titanium D-rings install everywhere else. I opted for the D rings everywhere, but....maybe there will be a "next time."

3/32 Shockcord (the skinny stuff), mitten clip, cord lock and split rings.

Install the Split Rings on each corner of the tarp.

Tie shock cord to corner of door.

Install mitten clip on shock cord.

Install cord lock on shock cord.

Tie knot at end of shock cord.

You can then use draw one door side towards the opposite corner, clip the mitten hook to the split ring and tighten the shock cord, locking it in place with the cord lock. This allows you to cinch the door tight or loosen it for entry/exit. You can also vary the pitch of the tarp and overlap of the doors as long as the shock cord is long enough.

The shock cord w/ mitten clip can also be used to pull the doors back out of the way and clip them through the side pull outs if you have them or to the peak, again adjusting with the cord lock.

I know pics would help and a video more. Will see if I have any.

I made a winter tarp and put omni tape on the doors. Really don't like it.

I use the shock cord/mitten hook/cord stop method on my Superfly and it works well for the bottom but under heavy winds, the middle of my doors open up and let the cools in. I'm thinking heavily about adding a strip of Grosgrain to each door edge and snaps.

I sewed 12 inches of 1/4" Grosgrain to the middle overlap and bottom edge overlap. I do have to tie and untie to get out or in. But it works.
