New convert to the Jbend here. I dropped the weight of the MSH toggles. And I love the tidy way I can secure the tag end of my kevlar straps into the last loop of the Jbend. Bravo Mr. Theguywitheyebrows! Perhaps you could share a link to your video for the people on this thread who have not yet heard of the Jbend. Thank-you!

Do you guys reckon the j bend is stronger than the beckett hitch.

I believe the strength will be more a factor of the webbing or cordage that you use in the suspension. I think both knots will hold without any issues. The Jbend has the advantage of being one of the easiest that I have found to untie. Also, by using the CL at the hammock end as the "toggle", it eliminates the need to bring dedicated toggles. It eliminates the step of making suitable toggles from sticks also. Just a little more convenient with the Jbend, the way I see it.

No wonder I've never heard of it-its really called a SHEET BEND.
Actually, no. A "bend" is a knot used to join two ropes together. A "hitch" is a knot used to attach a rope to something else. The Sheet Bend and Becket Hitch are tied the same way, but are technically different knots. The Sheet Bend joins the ends of two ropes together, and as you noted is often used when the two lines are of significantly different diameters. The Becket Hitch is used to attach a line to a fixed loop or eye, but is otherwise tied the same as the Sheet Bend. Here are pictures of both knots that illustrate the difference:

    Have used:

    HH suspension
    HH suspension w/rappel rings
    Eno straps
    Whoopie hooks
    Cinch Bugs

I think I've finally settled on this:

7' Kevlar straps > mule tape > continuous loops.

I used a becket hitch on both ends of the mule tape. The total for the suspension is 3.1oz and is very easily adjustable. I've only had it out on a few hangs thus far but I think this one is going to stick around.
