    PU Coated Tarp Sealant Issues

We recently added PU4000 fabric to our offerings from Ripstop By The Roll. This is an outstanding fabric with a very high hydrostatic head pressure rating. This particular fabric requires us to use a sealant suitable for PU coated fabrics, in this case Seam Grip. We typically allow a minimum of 48 hr cure time before shipping but we are receiving reports of the sealant adhering to itself very aggressively even with this 48 hr cure time. Effective immediately all PU4000 tarp will also receive powder on the sealant prior to shipping, this will have the effect of accelerating the collection of dust on the sealant with use and preventing the aggressive sticking.

If you have received a PU4000 tarp and are experiencing sticking issues please contact us. We will forward a prepaid mailing label for you to return the tarp for inspection. If the sealant needs to be removed due to delamination we will remove it, inspect the areas affected, reseal, cure, and powder prior to return to you.

This also applies to any Membrane PU4000 tarps that have been shipped recently.

1.1 Silnylon, 1.1 Silpoly, & Membrane 0.93 Silpoly are not affected by this issue.

Our apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

Well on all PU coated fabrics i use a diluted Marine Goop for sealant as it has a much higher UV resistance. Like all these types of adhesives they can act like a contact adhesive when dry so can stick to itself. I just use unscented baby talcum powder and brush a little over it as its drying, this solves the problem completely.

How does Membrane .93 Silpoly compare to Membrane PU4000 in heavy rain?
Any misting going on on the lighter .93 stuff?
