    How to add down

I am making a Costco TQ. I ripped seams and am going to take it to an alterations guy to have him sew it together for me. I was thinking of buying maybe a $20 down pillow and trying to add a little more down first. I'm not sure of any local source to buy any. Any tips on how to get it in the quilt? Maybe open the seam a little then cut a small corner off the pillow, stick it in the hole and squeeze? Open the seam and pillow and take a small careful handful and just stick it in?

Use a vacuum with an extension tube with one end wrapped with nylon mesh or noseeum mesh. Suck down out of pillow, blow into quilt.
You might be better off buying a few oz's of quality down rather than from a pillow. Those sometimes contain lots of feathers.

Since you have already ripped it into tube lengths, you could probably just shake the down to one end, open the opposite endseam, and stuff in handfuls of wet [but not soaking wet] Down. Once it dries it will unclump, and you can shake it out to blend after your thread injector guy sews the end closed for you.

Grabbing a handful from the pillow and stuffing into the quilt is probably the easiest. Clip the quilt shut as you go and then sew it.

Will make a little mess but its not that bad to clean up.

You can get good quality down 800+ from Amazon these days, the Chinese company takes about two week, there is a USA based company that costs more but will ship faster.http://www.amazon.com/Feather--Filli...ords=bulk+down
This is what I used and is good quality but takes a little while to get.

That's a good price $5 an ounce vs $7 from down linens where I normally get it.
