When it gets that cold, I wear a balaclava to keep my face warm. I also remind myself that those degree ratings are only suggestions of the items ability to hold the heat - I have to make the heat

And temperature is just one factor. You also have, especially with a hammock, convection heat loss because of wind. Or, in winter, some moisture issue with condensation. That's why those bag temperature ratings are just a suggestion.

Looks toasty to me. For reference; last year's Green Timber hang, I comfortably managed -12 using a KAQ 4s New River UQ, a Walmart sleeping bag rated for 5 degrees and my extra New River as a TQ.

This year, I made the transition to down and plan to use my Greylock 4s UQ w/ foot pad, a 20 degree Revelation TQ augmented with either my summer sleeping bag or the Walmart bag depending on forecasted lows.

Of course all other cold weather camping protocols need to be observed: stay hydrated and have lots of calories stoking the internal furnace.

Great suggestions everyone... Thank you all. I just purchased the Superfly a few minutes ago so i am really excited to use it!!!

Also, planning on making my own version of those black rock down mittens that Shug has in his videos. Saw a $12 down coat at salvation army the other day so i think i will pick that up. I purchased some Argon fabric online to make the gloves out of. Also thinking about making a hat as well as some down booties possibly.

What do you guys use in the sub zero temps as camp shoes??

I use a lot of hand warmers when it's really cold. Put a couple of the large adhesive pad warmers onto the underquilt between the UQ and hammock bottom. the warmers do a great deal of the work keeping the down warm so less for your body. I wouldn't go cold weather hammocking without a big bag of them. Also the adhesive toe warmers placed in your underarms of your night shirt will keep your hole body warm as a lot of blood flows through there

I just did this last weekend...-20ish. Check out my thread "wish me luck". Its still on the first page.
Anyways, I think that will be sufficient for quilts. The tarp is a huge plus for knocking down wind.
Dont go "michelin man" with clothes.
Ive said it before...and ill say it again...JRB down sleeves...get em!
Best cold weather piece of gear I think Ive bought so far.
Good luck and test, test, test, rest....
