I lived just outside of Lansing in Haslett for about 5 years. It's a great area with lots of outdoor things to do. Great people too!
If you get up here before the last weekend in February you would be welcome to come check out the Green Timbers hang: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...r-State-Forest
I wasn't set up for the below zero weather we had last year but I did hike in and spend the day. It was a great way to meet some of the MI hangers and check out people's set ups. Everyone was really friendly and you certainly won't go away hungry. Hopefully El Nino will keep the below zero temps away this year.
It isn't too hard to find if you can make it to Vanderbilt (the next exit north of Gaylord on I-75). Turn right off the exit then once you are in town look for Main Street and turn left. The road also is called East Sturgeon Valley Road but the sign in town says Main. Go five miles and the entrance will be on the left. It is really easy to miss as it is not marked but there are some stone pillars there where there used to be a sign. If you come to the river turn around and go back just bit. Here is a guide book entry for the location: http://www.michigantrailmaps.com/member-profile/3/71/ (It says it is 7 miles from town but I measured it at 5)
Anyway, probably more info than you wanted but thought I would post it now. That way if you wanted to come for the day you would already have the details.
Good luck with your move!
