    2 Inch Tree Straps?

What states require 2" tree straps or what areas (I.e.state parks or Nat. Forests?) require us to use 2" tree straps and if your using them, what length?

Oh, I'm not using the 2" straps. I'm never in Floridas state parks. Florida also has some national parks and WMA's where all of my trips are...... You could hang most places in Florida with 4 ft straps though with all of our skinny pine trees.

Last I read, FL State Parks also require the 2" for the tarp suspension as well.

This is a direct quote from National Parks Service so it appears NPS is requiring 1.5" straps

Ropes, clotheslines, tentlines and nails are not to be attached to trees or other vegetation. Hammocks are allowed provided straps are at least 1 & 1/2" and are not affixed to a tree less than 6" in diameter. Quiet hours are between the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and are strictly observed. Service sinks are located at the comfort stations. All dishes and utensils must be washed in the service sinks or in containers. Pour wastewater directly into service sinks and not onto the ground. Do not use campsite spigots for cleaning, bathing or brushing teeth. Campers must clean site of all trash, food items and property before leaving the park.

In VA State Parks it appears to be different in each park depending on how the regulations are interpreted by the local rangers. I have been told I can hang as long as my hammock is on the provided pad...duh, no trees on or near the pads for hanging. I have also been told 2" straps/6 inch trees and I can hang.

I would say call the rangers at the park you want to hang in.

Good info. I didn't know the NPS changed their requirements. Did GSMNP require 1.5" stamps now in the back country? Anywhere else anybody can think of?

Yeah, same in GA, need to camp on the pads. Um, but didn't you clear trees to make the tent pads? Actually, one of the newer state parks actually has hanging poles installed at the pad, pretty cool thought. Execution is lacking as they are 6', which often is a little short. Definitely worth calling before going to any managed area.
