AT hike from Devils fork to Hot Springs

    https://theosus1.wordpress.com/2015/...cks-not-there/

Good hike, even for a hammock. Just below freezing at night, and temps up to high 50s during the day. Got sick on my second night, never did that before. All the leaves had pretty much dropped off, leaving sticks and brownness everywhere. The Firescald Ridge was awesome, best part of the hike so far. Rivaled Max Patch in it's awesomeness.

Great write up. So sorry to hear you took a beating. There is nothing worse than being on a rough section and questioning the sanity of a hike with every single step you take. Gives me chicken skin just thinking about it.

Thanks for taking us along !

You're welcome! I tend to complain a little on the videos and on my write ups for humor's sake... It really was a good hike until the end of the second day. The walk up to the exposed ridge line was tough but entirely worth it at the end! The only part that I really didn't like was from NC208 up to spring mountain (miles 289.2 to 285.4 in the AWOL 2015 book, page 34) Steep, never-ending ups followed by steep tricky downs, followed by more ups. My body had given all that it had left to give at that point and I think that's why I got sick. I was beyond exhausted. Note to self: Get your lazy *** back on the treadmill every night uphill for two miles.

I always enjoy your trip reports.

I am motivated to get in shape before the spring hiking season. The rest of the year I just fall off and kick myself why I don't keep it up.

Thank you! Nice pics and narrative.

My wife and I did that exact trip September of last year and it was blazing hot, but no less beautiful. I remember getting to Jerry's Cabin and taking a LONG BREAK there. We slept just past the Firescald just so we could wake up and go up there and drink out coffee and tea and watch the sunrise.

I managed to do a little 360° Pano up there on Blackstack Cliffs. Definitely near the top of my list of views:
