HF,
Back in 2009, some buddies and I ventured after college ended for summer to Buena Vista/Salida, CO for a 3-day backpacking trip. Our starting point was west TN. The trip was cut short due to one friend getting altitude sickness and we only hiked in one day/night. It was a major let down for all of us that had been planning it for months. That trip was the end of May.
We are now looking to plan a trip mid to late March. In May it was around 50-60* (if I remember correctly). We are wanting to revisit this site because it's in the valley between some of the major 14ers there - Mt. Belford, Mt. Oxford, Mt. Columbia, Mt. Harvard (aka Collegiate Peaks). App. 14 miles total out and back.
Are any of you familiar with that area of CO? What's the weather like that time of year? Any tips or suggestions for camping there in west-central CO in early spring?
Thanks!
