Just got back from #34 doing an out and back on the NCT north of White Cloud. Brutally hot but at least I had a creek and a lake to cool down in. A long winded picture heavy trip report will be coming soon.

#34 just finished a weeklong with the scouts.
Tried out my new DIY Ariel Bridge and loved it. Also a new tarp and fronkey style bug net.
Low temp was 44°F and a high of 94°F.

    In the skins and sock.

I'm not sure how many months at this point. I would have to look. I do know that my wife and daughter left for Yellowstone with the girl scout troop over a week ago and I haven't slept in the house since!

It has been very hot and raining nearly every day this summer in Atlanta but I needed to get out this weekend to try out my new SLD Trail Lair hammock.

I decided to camp on top of a mountain thinking the winds might keep me cooler. I hiked to one of my favorite camping spots in North Georgia on the edge of a 3800' cliff where there is this camping spot.

I cannot say enough good things about my new SLD Trail Lair hammock. It is 64" wide and far and away my most comfortable hammock.

It is really hard to collect wood in the summer as the forest floor is completely covered in undergrowth. But I managed to find some wood from blow downs from Hurricane Irma last year.

With the wood being so wet, I constructed a log cabin fire ring to help dry the logs. I had it burning almost until midnight when I went to bed.

Once I got the fire rolling, the party began. I had a cooler full of iced-down and tasty Georgia IPA's to enjoy in my Helinox chair and table.

There was no sunset as it was cloudy but I did get to watch the fog roll in which was pretty cool. But thankfully, there was no rain.

Another excellent night hanging in the woods.

July and #35 is in the books.
Had a great trip backpacking into the Uinta Mountains. Caught my first Tiger Trout fun and a lot of fight in them. Best of all they tasted good too.

Well, life keeps trying to mess up my plans. Instead of my planned trip, a friend asked me to house sit at the last minute. So, I decided to it as an excuse to test out some equipment I never really used. A Hammeck hammock stand, Chinese versions of a trangia and wood burner, and a cheapo, Woot tarp. Pretty mild temps and the only excitement was when a small herd of deer showed up! Oh, yeah, one other of piece of gear, a first generation night vision scope. Worked great on the deer!

I've always used isobutane stoves on trips, so this was a good time to try the wood and alcohol stoves. Both worked great. The wood stove took a bit longer, but no fuel weight. The tarp just barely covered my 11 footer, but for nights with only patchy rain it was fine.

#35 and July 2018 is on the books. Had a great 4 day/3 night trip to one of my favorite places in Michigan. Had a little bit of rain starting out, but the rest of the weekend was perfect with overnight lows in the 50's and daytime highs of 70 and 80. The river was close by and provided ice cold water for drinking and a quick cool down for the brave hearted.

I'm pretty sure I had a very mild heart attack. Felt great!
