Thanks. Yes, the footbox is a trapezoid shape with a thickness similar to the rest of the quilt. The boxed corner has a height of about 2 1/2" in the corner. The seam for the inside and outside is right in the middle. When the footbox is sewn to the quilt it has some of this thickness inside and some outside. The amount inside should act as a draft collar to avoid a sewn through type of seam. I guess all of the thickness could have been on the inside but I was thinking having some on the outside would avoid my feet fully compressing the down right at the seam.
