    Shortening a WBRR

It seems to me that you could shorten a WBRR by almost a foot by just replacing the metal triangles, continuous loops, and cinch buckles with some of the titanium cinch buckles from Dutch.
Simply remove the triangles from the amsteel lines and larks head on the TI buckles. Then you are going directly from the amsteel dog bones to the cinch buckle to the webbing. Takes out the additional length of the continuous loops.

    Anyone try this?

Add in Dutch Biners for easy on and off to install the Spindrift sock....

You wouldn't even need additional hardware if you really wanted to do this.

You could simply remove the apex hardware and girth hitch the dog bones onto the supplied cinch buckles.

You'd only be gaining an additional 4-5 inches of wiggle room per side though.

I'm also unsure whether or not there is a reason for the extra length or if it is simply a way to accommodate easily swapping out suspensions.

You can get more than a foot shorter.
I shortened the Amsteel, replaced the triangle hardware with Dutch biners, attached the biners to Ti Dutch buckles, exactly like the pic gmcttr shows, and now I'm at 11' buckle to buckle.

How much more can you close your tarp's doors with this set up?

I made each piece to match the length of the spreaders. So, the foot pieces are shorter than the head pieces. Can't remember the exact lengths right off hand. In theory, the shorter 'V' will effect 'tipsiness' but I haven't noticed any at that length.

The shorter the triangle the more stress you will be placing on the spreader bars so be carefull

I am no mathematician, but I do know that the shorter the legs of the triangle (amsteel lines) the greater the compression force on the base (the aluminum poles). Examples of extremes would be, say 10 foot amsteel legs (least compression) and at the other extreme legs so short that there is just enough room to insert the poles (almost infinite compression on the base).

Modify if you must, but I'll wager that Brandon put quite a bit of thought into the measurements.
