    UGQ Down Pants... Interested???

For the longest time I've wanted a pair of down pants for winter camping. Most of them that I could find, which there aren't many options available, were way more money than I wanted to spend, being well north of $200+. So with a little time and effort, and a few attempts, I think I'm close to having a working prototype.

15d iLLUME DWR Outer Shell Construction, 10d iLLUME Inner Shell Construction, 4.5 oz HD800GDD, Hip Draw on both Hips, Leg Cuff Draws, 8.50 oz finished weight Next prototype will have reinforced & waterproof shins/knees as well as the seat will have reinforced/waterproof fabric added.

I'd like to ask for some input from everyone, if this is a product you'd be interested in possible buying please make a comment indicating your interest. This will help to give us a gauge on the amount of interest in down insulated pants...

Price point would be $160-$180 depending on size and fill type.

Those are pretty sweet, Paul. They look like they fit much better than my only other pair of down pants.

My wife had asked for down pants for X-mas. She has a birthday in January. Not sure how fast production will get going. Let us know.

I like the idea. Have you considered reinforcing the butt and knee area?

Looks very nice...possibly interested, though not sure how much use they'd get down here in SC.

In Colorado from December to March insulated overpants are a must.
Once you stop hiking they are wonderful for around camp (post chores) and to sleep in.

    Looks good.
Is that sewn through or baffled. Is there a gusset in the crotch area.
Are you're reinforcements going to cover the stitching of the area or be part of it.
Will the reinforcements include an inside ankle patch as a lot of people brush their ankles together as they walk causing fabric wear.

They will need a proper development and testing period so will not be anytime soon...

Traditional sewn through construction I'm only aware of a hand full of companies making a baffled insulated pants at this time. MH makes a set of bibs for $500+, WM makes a set of pants for $275, reinforcements need to be tested on next set and the addition of the ankle patch is a great idea. We be sewing reinforcements on during baffling and see how that works. Concerned with stretching of one fabric and not the other causing stitch elongation. This set was for sizing to my butt as well as testing some new construction methods for leg cuff draws and waist draw. They will see some field action very soon, hoping they are toasty warm well below 20*F with just a base layer on and light shell over pants...

Maybe a lighter version with 2.5 oz of down for those in the warmer locales would be in order....
