    Adapting to conditions

Well, as we know hammocks are just for trees! This weekend we had the Scout Troop out and all the good trees were taken. My three Assistant Scoutmasters and I had to find a place to hang.. A fence and horse tie posts became the answer!
    It worked outstanding!
    Great Weekend and awesome hang!

That's great. Are all the boys in hammocks also?

Not all the Scouts, but some. Many are going to just tarps now.. Have a bunch of Super Fly's out there. We are a backpacking troop, so its all light and small.
The Hammock bug is spreading though.

The trouble I've had with boys, is that they don't listen about bottom insulation. Some learn and the next time do a better job, but some return to the ground after 1 try. We backpack a lot as a troop as well, but I find that I always carry about twice as much weight when I am with them as when I just go with friends or family.

I've done similar things before. Sometimes you just have to get creative. Somehow pulled this one off though: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1413897825.432041.jpg

These fence posts are pretty old. The first one I tested fell over from the slightest push, ha. The two pictured managed to stay put. They sagged pretty hard when weight was in the hammock. Had to tie the ridge line off from in the hammock to keep it taunt. Amazingly they held all night!

Being in scouting as an adult for the last 25 years ... I too packed extra for those newbies boys. Now as a Unit Commissioner I'm trying to pack less and letting the younger Scoutmaster take over that task.

Yeah, the hammock bug is spreading in my troop as well. Seems like half of the boys prefer to sleep in their hammocks.
    Is it hang time yet?
